Top 200 Universities in Africa 2016 – Did Your School Make the List?


Ever wonder how the world’s top universities stack up against one another? According to a source that focuses on the subject, the rankings of top schools contains some institutions you are probably familiar with, but have made some notable movements.

In its 13th year of ranking world universities, Times Higher Education compiled this list of top schools according to their qualities in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The first 10 universities in the list are from South Africa, and a total of 13 South African universities made top 20. In the previous year, 6 Universities in South Africa and 4 in Egypt made up the top 10 list. But this time, The American University in Cairo, went from 7th (last year) to 11th position.

In the previous year, one Nigerian University showed up at 28th position. This year, the first Nigerian university made it to the first 15 list, followed by the University of Lagos at Number 21 (Number 31 in 2015). Privately-owned Covenant University is the 3rd Nigerian university in the list at 24th position (previously 49th).
