Here is another interesting episode on ChattingDMC (deep meaningful conversations), Chatting with one of Nollyhood producer and actress, Motunrayo Mariam Balogun (MMB).
Welcome to our episode of ChattingDMC, thanks for welcoming us, tell us about your self, especially to those meeting you for the first time?
My name is Motunrayo Mariam Balogun (MMB). I am a movie producer and an actress.
Can you tell us little about your background or origin?
I am from Abeokuta – ijemo to be precise. I attended olulanu nursery and primary school, kuti memorial grammar school for my secondary school and earned an OND in mass communication from moshood abiola polytechnic. I just recently graduated from the Lagos State University where I study sociology.
I always wanted to be one of the actresses I saw on tv. I wanted to play dress up and get into characters,
For me I think it’s because I watch movies a lot. I find pleasure in reading and I’m fascinated about creating characters plus I was influenced my elder sister who is an avid fan of Yoruba movies, Plus when I was younger I loved being part of cultural and drama groups, I knew exactly what I wanted so when I finished secondary school I thought it was time to pursue my dreams. My neighbor then introduced me to Henrietta Kosoko of blessed memory who advised me to join Jide Kosoko Theatre group. After much persuasion my mom agreed but wasn’t willing to pay my bills. I had to tell my grandmother who finally gave me.
What’s the worst part about being an actor? And What’s the best part of being an actor?
The worst part is when you don’t get appreciated for your hard-work and also when your normal life stops feeling normal.
The best part will be doing what I love and having a sense of fulfillment and happiness. The perks of being an actor also doesn’t hurt. You get love from people and attention as well.
How do you feel or how do you react to critics, especially bad comments on your work or acting style ?
I just see criticism as way for you to do better. Referring to the bad comments; my teacher of blessed memory henrietta kosoko once told me to expect the worst from people and I should not let that get to me. So I just laugh it off even though I sure the haters expect me to feel bad. I tend not to dignify people who comment bad at me with a response. Not everybody can like you; even popes get criticized. I work hard and do things that make me happy, I put in my absolute best without trying to please everyone.
