Me: so you are leaving us again abi?

We all laughed. Then my neighbour’s wife spoke

Neighbour’s wife: Iya Debo, s’e ma ko awon Adijat tele yin lo si’le? (Can Adijat and her siblings follow you home?)

Sister: mo n lo si iso’oru leni (I’m going for all night prayer meeting)

Neighbour’s wife: e joo. E bami mi won dani (Please take them along)

Sister: ok ma. but……

Neighbour’s wife: is it about their food? Don’t worry I will prepare it now.

She stood up and went to the kitchen to prepare food. When I got to the kitchen to cook, my neighbour’s wife whispered to me
“don’t cook. I’ll prepare yours” I thanked her and went back into the room. I didn’t know when I slept off.

I woke up around 7.30pm and the house was quiet except for my neighbour’s wife and her husband sister. When I came outside, I saw the kids already prepared for church and their food already in their food basket. We locked the house and my neighbour’s wife and I escorted them to the junction where I bought suya for the kids. They boarded keke in our presence. As we wanted to turn back I saw her husband coming on a bike towards our direction.

Neighbour: thank God I met you people at the junction. (facing his wife) take this package home for me. I am going to Abuja IIMMEDIATELY and the car which will convey us is already at Sango waiting for us. (facing me) e ku itoju wa sir. (thanks for taking care of us) my wife always tell me how you take care of those two children as if they were yours.

Me: no sir. it is just that whenever I see those kids, I always remember mine.

Neighbour: eeyah. E pele sir. I believe that one day everything will turn around for good.

Everyone: amen.

Neighbour: (hugging his wife) I will come home next weekend.

His wife: ok dear.

As soon as my neighbour left, I heaved a sigh of relief

Neighbour’s wife: he don go be that. Always on the road

Me: if he doesn’t travel, how will he take care of a beautiful woman like you?

Neighbour’s wife: Bro. Collins, it is not everything that is money.

Me: hmmm

We bought suya for ourselves, strolls the area for some minutes and went home. When we got home, we ensured that the entrance gate is locked from within and we entered the house. When we entered, she jumped on me from the back and I carried her to my room. when we got there, she wanted to open the bag her husband gave her. We saw that it was packaged rice with a meat pie. She wanted to take it but I stopped her.
